The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is officially the must-have processor for flagship phones for the rest of 2022. ASUS, realme, and OnePlus have confirmed that they will be using the new processor to power their next flagship, with ASUS and realme confirming that their next phones will be the ROG Phone 6 and GT 2 Master Explorer Edition respectively.
ASUS, who has been particularly quiet with flagship devices lately, decided to skip the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 completely and go for the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 instead for the ROG Phone 6. ASUS’ Twitter post does not reveal much, but we expect the ROG Phone 6 to be the first gaming phone to have Qualcomm’s new flagship processor.
Alleged renders of the ROG Phone 6 (and its Pro sibling) have surfaced earlier this year, and it appears that it will roughly have the same design as the ROG Phone 5. That should be good news for users of the previous-generation ROG Phone as this means that accessories for the ROG Phone 5 should be compatible with the ROG Phone 6.
Aside from ASUS, both realme and OnePlus confirmed that their next flagship phone will use a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. While OnePlus did not reveal which of their phones will use it, realme confirmed that Qualcomm’s new flagship chip will be used on the GT 2 Master Explorer Edition. Last year’s GT Master Explorer Edition was only available in China, so it remains to be seen if realme will make the GT 2 Master Explorer Edition available globally.
