The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) has just announced that they will be extending free rides until the end of June.
Originally set to end last April 30, the “Libreng Sakay” program of the MRT-3 by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) was launched last March 28. Due to the great feedback and help that it brought to commuters amidst the rising cost of fuel prices and inflation, the program will now be extended for the second time to be able to assist more people.
The “Libreng Sakay” program will remain open to all passengers that will take the MRT-3 from 4:40 am to 10:10 pm.
MRT-3 OIC-General Manager Capati stated that “We are now in the stage of testing the performance of our subsystems following the success of our full-scale rehabilitation. We hope to cater to more passengers with the extension of the FREE RIDE program, as well as showcase the improved services of the MRT-3 and restore the public confidence in our mass transport system.”
During the “Libreng Sakay” program of the MRT-3, a total of 15,730,872 passengers were served, including the highest ever recorded one-day passenger number of 351,952 riders on May 20 making it a breaking record for the MRT-3 since it resumed its operations last June 2020.
