Honda fanboys would be thrilled to know that an iconic nameplate from the brand is making a return. Acura officially announced the return of the Integra in 2022.
The Integra is one of the most popular performance vehicles from Acura/Honda. Since its discontinuation, many Honda enthusiasts have considered it as a collector’s item, especially in stock and unmolested state. What many people don’t know is that the Integra was originally a Sport Bike in 1982. However, Honda started using the model name in their motor vehicles starting in 1988 and until 2006. After retiring the Integra in 2006, Honda once again used the model name in its motorcycles in 2012. Now, the name is once again back in the world of automobiles.
Acura VP and brand officer Jon Ikeda said “I’m thrilled to say Integra is returning to the Acura lineup with the same fun-to-drive spirit and DNA of the original, fulfilling our commitment to Precision Crafted Performance in every way – design, performance, and the overall driving experience.”
Acura did not disclose many details, although they posted a short clip on their Instagram page. In the video, the new Integra can be seen sporting sleek LED headlights and an “INTEGRA” lettering embossed on the bumper. The new model still resembles the third-generation DC2 hence it gives lovely retro vibes.
Fans are expecting the 2022 Acura Integra to come with a high-revving NA engine just like before. Although that is highly unlikely as Honda has already shifted to the more efficient turbocharged engines. Nevertheless, the new Integra would certainly be as good as the current FK8 Civic Type R at the very least so it will definitely not disappoint.
For now, all we can do is wait. The important thing is knowing that Integra will certainly rejoin Honda’s performance lineup next year.
