If you asked us a decade ago, a family man may have had to let go of all his “cool cars” in favor of boring people-movers as he moved on to a new stage in life. This was the usual pattern in the past since being interesting and practical were considered mutually exclusive concepts. These past years though, car companies have attempted to break this mold with kitted-up versions of their passenger cars. The Toyota Rush receives the same treatment with GR Sport (GR-S) upgrades, designed to inject life into this fun little SUV.
With the tagline “Race your Everyday,” it seems that the vehicle wants to give you a Rush through mundane everyday life. This top-of-the-line variation of the 7-seater is donning the iconic Gazoo Racing emblem on its body. Other cosmetic enhancements include a GR-branded front bumper spoiler, rear bumper spoiler, and body molding. Three GR-S colors provide the necessary highlight for this spectacle: Dark Red Mica Metallic, Black Metallic 1, and White 2.
The changes are purely on the outside though. Under the hood remains the 1.5L VVTi Gasoline Engine mated to a 4-speed Automatic transmission. The cabin also sports some modern touches like a 7-inch touchscreen capable of Android Auto / Apple CarPlay, as well as an 8-speaker audio system and Smart Entry functionality. Safety is not an afterthought with this vehicle due to its numerous assists like ABS, VSC, Hill Start Control, a built-in camera and rear sonar.
