Razer, an influential gaming company we’ve all come to know and love, is launching a trifecta of headphone products under the Razer Barracuda name. These are the base Barracuda, Barracuda X, and Pro models all featuring various specs targeting equally varied audiences. The brand believes that this lineup will take the space by storm and we’re here to discuss what’s there to know about these devices.

Razer Barracuda

We’ll start off with the standard Razer Barracuda. Sound is delivered via the company’s signature TriForce Titanium 50mm drivers and THX Spatial Audio for that immersive effect. With both of these installed, the company claims that it can not only put out punchy sound but also bring cinematic scapes to life.

Dual-integrated microphones take care of all the ambient noise around you with Noise-Cancelling features. Razer SmartSwitch software allows for connections to multiple devices and easy switching between each one. On a single charge, the Barracuda can keep playing for up to 40 hours – and when the juice runs dry and both the Bluetooth and 2.4Ghz connections are unavailable, a 3.5mm headphone jack is always ready. You’ll be keeping these on for hours at a time since the FlowKnit Memory Foam headband and earcup padding will envelop your head like a pillow.

This device is a gaming headset you won’t really be ashamed to bring outside or in the office since its design doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb.

Razer Barracuda X

Next up in the line is the refreshed Barracuda X. It now also features Razer SmartSwitch Dual via Bluetooth and 3.5mm compatibility.

The Razer TriForce drivers here are set at a slightly smaller 40mm here as compared to the Barracuda we just mentioned, but this leads to an amped-up battery life of 50 hours. Despite these smaller drivers, 7.1 Surround Sound is still supported for a 3D listening experience.

A detachable HyperClear cardioid microphone definitely oozes that gamer aesthetic when connected. When taken off, it returns to its more casual look.

Razer advertises the X as the lightweight, versatile member of this trio.

Razer Barracuda Pro

Standing as the king of the hill is the Razer Barracuda Pro. It also carries the same features seen on the other two like Razer SmartSwitch Dual as well as 2.4Ghz/Bluetooth 5.2 Wireless, but with no wired options. As such, battery life is also at 40 hours and can be recharged via USB-C like the others.

Sound is never compromised since found in the Pros are the all-new Razer TriForce Bio-Cellulose 50mm drivers. Instead of the usual boom aimed for by gamer headsets, Razer has described their sound target here as natural and detailed. There is even a built-in amplifier in the THX Achromatic Audio Amplifier (THX AAA) to expand dynamic range and minimize sound distortion across the board. In simpler terms, this could elevate audio quality and present more of the music’s intricate details to the listener.

Top-shelf dual integrated beamforming microphones allow this headphone to have Hybrid ANC, which works best in blocking out surrounding noises. This comes especially useful when you don’t want your roommates to break your competitive focus, or you’re outside and want to be shut out from the world.

These microphones are also marketed to pick up your vocals excellently for call clarity, which is further supported by three levels of active noise-suppression.

Long calls won’t be an issue as the Pro exclusively has a plush leatherette memory foam cushion wrapping all the usual pinching points. Talk about fancy.

Chris Mitchell, Head of the PC Gaming Division at Razer, had this to say: “The Barracuda Pro is the hybrid headset that does it all. Whether it’s your main gaming setup at home or your favorite music playlists on the go, the Barracuda Pro combines the fuss-free convenience of lifestyle headphones along with the high-performance gaming features you’d expect in a Razer gaming headset, to create a no-compromise experience, packaged in a sleek, premium design.”
