Following its announcement last year,Xiaomi announced that they are ready to reveal their prototype EV car by August in China. The tech giant is serious about venturing with the EV business, with CEO and co-founder Lei Jun spending a considerable amount of time monitoring the progress for their first EV prototype

After the unveiling in August, Xiaomi will put its EV prototype into a series of tests that includes testing it during the winter. along with all the tests it is doing, Xiaomi expects to have a mass-production-ready EV by 2024. To make this possible, Xiaomi Auto tapped a team from Shanghai HVST Automobile Design, which is also involved with the WM Motor Concept Maven.

Prior to this, Xiaomi completed its registration as Xiaomi Auto Co. Ltd last September and has signed a contract with the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Area Management Committee to build the headquarters base of its auto business and its sales and R&D headquarters in Yizhuang. The plant is said to be capable of an annual production capacity of 300,000 units.

Xiaomi plans to launch four models initially, with two each in the A+ and B classes. The A+ models support L2+ autonomous driving and are priced between CNY 150,000-200,000, while the B models support L3 autonomous driving and are priced between CNY 200,000-300,000.
